Rainbow Six Siege's Y8S2.3 Update Brings Operator Balancing: Designer's Notes Break Down the Changes

Are you ready for what's next?

In the latest edition of Designer's Notes for Rainbow Six Siege, Ubisoft unveils the upcoming balancing changes that will accompany the highly anticipated Y8S2.3 Update. The detailed breakdown sheds light on the reasoning behind these adjustments and provides players with insight into the upcoming shifts in operator dynamics.

Operator balancing takes center stage in this update, with several key changes designed to enhance gameplay and address community feedback. Let's delve into the specifics:

To breathe new life into Thorn, one of the least picked trappers in defender lineups, Ubisoft has made a significant addition to her loadout. The UZK50GI will now feature a 1.5x sight, offering players more versatility and increasing her appeal within the trapper ecosystem.

In the case of Nøkk, Ubisoft aims to address some of the concerns surrounding her deceptive ability. The changes include the removal of silent steps while her ability is active, an increase in ability duration from 12 seconds to 20 seconds, and updates to glitching reasons. The silent movement aspect of Nøkk's ability has been a source of frustration for defenders, as it disrupts the natural auditory cues of approaching enemies. By removing this silent facet in exchange for a longer ability duration, Ubisoft seeks to strike a balance that promotes fair gameplay.

Bringing consistency to operator abilities, Ubisoft introduces adjustments to Vigil's ERC-7 cloaking device. Vigil will now experience the same glitching effect as Nøkk on observation tools, eliminating the ability's deactivation during certain actions such as shooting or deploying gadgets. However, Vigil will no longer be immune to Lion's EE-ONE-D or Grim's Kawan Hive. While these gadgets will detect him, Vigil can still avoid being pinged down by activating the ERC-7. This change aims to align the mechanics of Nøkk and Vigil, rewarding cautious play while using the ERC-7 and penalizing reckless actions.

To improve the usability of Oryx's hatch climbing ability, Ubisoft has reduced the interaction time by 30%. Analyzing gameplay data, Ubisoft observed that Oryx did not benefit significantly from this particular aspect of his kit. By reducing the recovery time, Ubisoft aims to make the hatch climbing interaction smoother and less risky, encouraging players to utilize this ability more confidently.

The Y8S2.3 Update showcases Ubisoft's commitment to maintaining a balanced and engaging gameplay experience in Rainbow Six Siege. These operator balancing changes seek to refine the dynamics of the game, address community concerns, and offer a more rewarding experience for players across the board.
