Ubisoft Announced Y8S3.3 Designer's Notes For Rainbow Six Siege

New fixes go a long way.

In response to valuable feedback from the Rainbow Six Siege community, Ubisoft is rolling out a series of operator balancing changes, with a particular focus on Frost's Welcome Mat. These changes aim to address player concerns and make the game more strategic while preserving its core gameplay elements.

Welcome Mat Removal Adjustments

One of the main concerns players had was losing the ability to bait extra attackers into reviving teammates trapped in the Welcome Mat. In response to this, Ubisoft has introduced a new mechanic. Players caught in Frost's Welcome Mat can now opt to wait for a teammate to perform the revive. By doing so, they will avoid the debuff that previously applied when leaving the trap. This change encourages teamwork among defenders and rewards attackers for coordinating their efforts.

To deter "run & gun" gameplay, Ubisoft has implemented a stronger debuff for players caught in the Welcome Mat. In addition to not being able to sprint, they will experience a 20% movement speed reduction, and the duration of the debuff has been increased to a full minute. These changes should make it more challenging for reckless players who separate from their teams and fall into Frost's traps.

Trapped players will now require 4 seconds to exit the trap, regardless of the revive method chosen. This extended animation gives defenders more time to eliminate trapped enemies before they can stand up.

The removal time for a Welcome Mat by a teammate has been slightly reduced to 4 seconds (previously 4.3 seconds) without any debuffs applied. However, if players choose to remove the trap by themselves, they will face a penalty. The self-removal debuff now lasts for 60 seconds, during which the player moves 20% slower, cannot sprint, and leaves a blood trail behind them. Their health is also reduced to 20 HP. Additionally, being caught by a Welcome Mat is now considered entering the "Down But Not Out" (DBNO) state. Players can only go DBNO once per round, so those already DBNO will immediately die if caught in a Frost trap.

Other Operator Balancing Changes

In addition to the adjustments made to Frost's Welcome Mat, Ubisoft is preparing for a more comprehensive solution to address the Frag Grenades issue in the game. As part of these changes, Iana will see her Frag Grenades replaced by Stun Grenades while gaining access to the Gonne-6 secondary weapon. Finka will now have Frag Grenades as a third gadget option, but the Gonne-6 will be removed. Gridlock will receive Frag Grenades in place of Breach Charges, and her Gonne-6 will also be removed.

The operator Sens will receive recoil adjustments for their POF-9 weapon to make it more forgiving and effective at longer distances. Finally, Tachanka's DP27 weapon will see a damage increase to 60, making it more competitive with higher fire rate weapons in terms of time to kill.

Warden, on the other hand, will see changes to his operator stats, transitioning from a 2-Armor and 2-Speed operator to a 3-Armor and 1-Speed operator. This shift aims to encourage Warden to play closer to the objective, where his ability to counter flashes and smokes can be maximized.
